All about car insurance discounts

Is the Total Casco essential?

This is a question we are often asked: “The full helmet being more expensive, do I really have to take it off?” “.

Unfortunately, there is no ready answer to this question, it will all depend on your situation.

If you have purchased a rented vehicle, you will have no choice but to insure full helmet. This is one of the disadvantages of leasing: the lender requires you to take out comprehensive auto insurance. As the car is new, this can be understood and therefore allow your leasing organization to reimburse you in the event of a major claim.

If your vehicle is less than 5 years old, we can only recommend that you take out full coverage. Beyond the higher premium, it’s best to insure a near-new car with significant coverage. We do not think it wise to insure a new simple liability vehicle, unless you have the means to pay the costs in the event of an accident!

If, on the other hand, your vehicle is more than 5 years old, you can skip the full helmet. But is it really a good decision? We advise you to inform yourself well before making this decision: do not hesitate to contact our consultants who will be able to answer you and offer you the best options at your disposal.

How to pay less for car insurance without discounts?

If you benefit from one or more discounts on your car insurance, you have the option of lowering the premium further. When you take out car insurance, in fact, pay particular attention to the options present in the contract: these can sometimes be useless or duplicate the coverage of other contracts.

For example, if you have opted for all-risk coverage for your home insurance (which certainly includes stolen items), it will not be useful to take out this same option in your auto insurance. It is therefore necessary to check that the different contracts do not have duplicate coverage, which could significantly increase the bill.

In addition, some car insurances are not compulsory: passenger insurance is of limited interest to a haulier resident in Switzerland. In fact, accident insurance offers similar coverage and certainly doubles it. If you are transporting foreign people, don’t skip this option!

The “Parking Damage” option is not necessarily useful if your car is parked in a closed garage, at home or in the workplace. To see if it’s really essential for you, and if not, lower your auto insurance premium by removing it from the contract.

Finally, if you have multiple vehicles, you can only have one set of license plates for both – this is called interchangeable plates. Instead of having two separate insurances, you will only have one for the two vehicles. The only constraint: the cars will not be able to circulate at the same time, it will be necessary to choose between one or the other.

As you can see, it is possible to make attractive savings on your auto insurance contract without discounts – you just need to study your insurance contracts carefully and make sure you are not doubly insured. If you would like a free analysis of your contracts, our consultants are at your disposal. Feel free to contact them!
